Arkansas baseball notebook: Open scrimmages liked by Razorbacks

FAYETTEVILLE — Whenever the Arkansas baseball team scrimmages at Baum-Walker Stadium, the gates are open.

Such will be the case Friday when the Razorbacks are scheduled to scrimmage for the first time this preseason. First pitch is expected around 2 p.m.

Open scrimmages have been a hallmark for the team under 24th-year coach Dave Van Horn each fall and preseason. The only scrimmages that are not open are due to bad-weather days that force the team indoors to the Fowler Center.

“I don’t think in baseball we’re trying to keep any secrets from anybody, especially with what’s out there right now with social media and things,” Van Horn said.
