Bill Hamid reportedly in talks with D.C. United to extend contract

Steve Goff reported Wednesday night that D.C. United goalkeeper Bill Hamid was involved in contract extension talks with the team. Goff cited multiple sources, including one who characterized the talks as going well but another seemed to exercise caution on their progress.

The 26-year old homegrown product is an obvious necessity to retain; his local ties to the community and passion for the city and team has been demonstrated before, and as the team goes into Audi Field next summer, would be an ideal face for the marketing effort. Looking at the term of Hamid’s last deal, one that was extended less than two years ago and due to expire at the end of 2015, it is mildly surprising to see that he agreed to a two-year deal (which expires at the end of 2017 as Goff reports).
