D.C. United’s Bill Hamid will miss most, if not all, of training camp after undergoing knee surgery Monday — the second consecutive winter the standout goalkeeper has needed his right knee repaired ahead of the MLS season.
United’s first-choice keeper since 2011 withdrew from U.S. national team camp before it began last week after aggravating meniscus during offseason workouts. Initially scheduled to return to Washington for further evaluation, he instead remained in Los Angeles for the procedure, which was performed by U.S. team physician Bert Mandelbaum.
Club officials estimate he’ll be ready to play in six weeks.
