While the Copa America Centenario winds down for the U.S. men’s team, the Olympics are on the horizon for the women.
On Thursday, Jill Ellis invited 24 players to training camp, which will open July 1 in Chicago. There were no surprises. The only player who appeared in a match this year but wasn’t chosen was reserve forward Stephanie McCaffrey.
In the coming weeks, Ellis will name 18 players to the Olympic squad (16 field players and two goalkeepers). She will also take four alternates, who will travel to Brazil but remain inactive unless summoned as an injury replacement.
