It’s official: Georgetown’s Josh Yaro is going to MLS

Georgetown defender Josh Yaro has signed with MLS, foregoing a final year of NCAA eligibility and turning down an opportunity in Europe. He is considered one of the top prospects in next Thursday’s draft in Baltimore and might go first overall to the Chicago Fire.

Yaro, a native of Ghana who attended prep school in California, guided the Hoyas to three consecutive NCAA tournament berths and drew acclaim from coaches, fans and scouts alike for his speed, technical ability, decision-making and organization skills.

“I’d like to thank all of the Georgetown faculty, coaching staff, and my teammates for contributing to my growth as a player and person the last three years,” said Yaro, a government major and first-team scholar all-Ameriacan who, after soccer, plans to pursue a career in diplomacy.
