Top-ranked Maryland went on the road to defeat No. 22 West Virginia, 1-0, on Monday for its seventh consecutive victory and fifth straight clean sheet.
Sophomore midfielder Amar Sejdic notched his fifth goal of the year midway through the first half and senior goalkeeper Cody Niedermeier made a career-high eight saves as the Terrapins (10-0-2) survived heavy pressure from the Mountaineers (6-4-1). Maryland extended its shutout streak to almost 466 minutes.
“They were up for the occasion and had a huge crowd,” Maryland Coach Sasho Cirovski said. “We responded very well. We got the early goal and we showed some determination on the defensive side of the ball and some grit.
