*Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Tex., is the new front-runner to host the U.S. home leg of the Olympic qualifying playoffs against Colombia on March 29, replacing San Jose’s Avaya Stadium. Travel distance from Colombia, where the first leg will be played four days earlier, was among the considerations. The U.S. Soccer Federation is expected to make a final decision soon.
March 29 is also the date of the U.S. World Cup qualifier against Guatemala in Columbus, Ohio. To accommodate TV audiences, the Olympic match and qualifier will kick off at separate times. Both are being played inside a FIFA international window.
