USMNT lose, miss out on 2018 World Cup

The US men’s national team missed out on the World Cup for the first time since 1986, as a 2-1 loss to Trinidad and Tobago, coupled with two other results, knocked the USMNT out of qualifying. Four days after a resounding win over Panama, the US were undone by two first half goals, one an own goal from Omar Gonzalez, the other, a long range effort from Alvin Jones.

An early second half goal from Christian Pulisic gave the US some hope, as both Honduras and Panama were not winning their games at the half. However, Honduras took the lead against Mexico midway through the second half, and a late Panamanian goal confirmed the US’ elimination from next summer’s tournament.
