Wednesday kickaround

*FC Dallas raised the U.S. Open Cup trophy for the first time in 19 years Tuesday, defeating the New England Revolution, 4-2, before a capacity crowd of 16,612 at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Tex. Mauro Diaz posted a goal and three assists for FCD, the Supporters’ Shield front-runner with six weeks left in the regular season. The club has never won the MLS Cup.

The Open Cup triumph comes with an automatic berth in the 2017-18 CONCACAF Champions League.

“This is a big hurdle for us, winning the first one,” Coach Oscar Pareja said of the long trophy hunt.
