The Texans are backing up their words about veteran free agent offensive guard Brandon Brooks.
Since the NFL scouting combine when general manager Rick Smith signaled that Brooks would be a negotiating priority and met with Brooks' representatives, the Texans have followed up and are actively trying to hammer out a new contract. No deal is imminent, though, according to sources not authorized to speak publicly.
Whether Brooks will test free agency or re-sign with the Texans, who have $42.149 million in salary-cap space, will depend upon how he and the AFC South champions view his value and if they can reach a common ground.
