Thor tosses 5 sharp IP, hits RBI single in return

NEW YORK -- The Mets' vision of having Noah Syndergaard and Jacob deGrom start 40 percent of their games this season may not have come to fruition, but Syndergaard returned from the disabled list Friday with designs on salvaging the rest of his season.

Making his first start in seven weeks, Syndergaard allowed one run in five innings against the Nationals to lower his ERA to 2.97. He struck out three and, while Syndergaard allowed the leadoff man to reach base in all five of his innings, he permitted just one to score. That one came home only after Tanner Roark's ball down the right-field line took a funky bounce off the top of the wall, allowing Roark to race around with a triple to lead off the third.
