The Miami Dolphins have released former starting cornerback Byron Maxwell, according to a report from NFL insider Adam Schefter.
Maxwell was benched by the Dolphins earlier this season. He also got benched during the 2016 season before eventually returning to the starting lineup.
The Philadelphia Eagles traded Maxwell, who was a free agency signing during the Chip Kelly regime, to Miami last offseason along with linebacker Kiko Alonso and the No. 13 overall pick in exchange for the No. 8 pick. From there, the Eagles executed a trade with the Cleveland Browns to move up to the No.
