As we all know, part of Providence Park is getting a face lift and expanding. The Timbers will spend the first five or six matches on the road to start both the 2018 and 2019 seasons, but it won’t affect the number of home matches as MLS will backload their schedule similar to what they’re doing for D.C. United. As they wait for their new stadium to finish construction, the Timbers won’t be holding their pre-season tournament this year or next.
The $50m stadium expansion project will bring the capacity of Providence Park to 25,000 and I think will be worth the wait for the final product.
